Edgar Chibaka (born 1973) is a British and Malawian businessman, author, philanthropist, pastor and civil servant based in the United Kingdom.[1][2][3][4] He is the chairman of the executive board at Malawi-UK Business Group.[2][5]

He is the co-founder and director of First Response Group established in 2007 with Jamal Tahlil,[6][7] a company company based in the United Kingdom that specializes in security services, site logistics, CCTV, and property risk management.[8][9][5]

He is also the founder and CEO of Shire Railways.[5] He serves as a managing director at Robinsons MEA, an electrical, mechanical and air conditioning design, maintenance and installation company based in Harrogate, England.[6][5]

Early life and education[edit]

Chibaka was born in 1973 in Rumphi District in Malawi in a family of five in which he is the first born. He is a Tumbuka by tribe. He attended his primary school in Rumphi and attended last classes in Blantyre.[5] He did his secondary studies at Dedza Government Secondary School in Dezda District. It is here where he developed an interest in journalism. He had worked as a freelance correspondent for the Mirror Newspaper and Weekly News based in Blantyre.[7][5]

Chibaka holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) obtained from the University of Northampton. He holds a Diploma in Accountancy, and Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management (Salford University Business School). He is also a certified coach, mentor, and trainer by the John Maxwell Leadership program.[7][10]

Chibaka was awarded Black British Business Awards Co-Person of the Year in 2021.[5][11] In 2022, he was honored with an Ernest and Young (EY) in Entrepreneur of the Year Regional Finalist . He was also warded a Yorkshire Finance Leader (YFL) High Growth Award in 2023.[10][11]

Chibaka is a managing director of Robinsons Building Services Ltd since 2018. The company is based in Harrogate, whose subsidiary later evolved into Robinsons MEA Ltd and was elected Chairman of the Malawi-UK Business Group in 2020.[5]
