Charlene Ebai-Ebi Egbe (born April 14, 1992) is a Cameroonian-Norwegian mistress of ceremony, events compere, hype queen, fitness instructor and media and entertainment entrepreneur, popularly known as MC Charlene and the Energy Goddess.[1][2] In 2019 she was unveiled as the MC of the year at the Scandinavia Africa Music Award (SAMA) and she emerged as the Best MC at the Muzikol Music Awards (MUMA) in 2020.[3] She is one of few notable female MCs in Norway.[4]

Career[edit]

MC Charlene began her career as a social worker, after obtaining a bachelor's degree in social work from Høgskulen på Vestlandet. She also became a certified chef from Sandsli videregående skole, before founding her sports brand, Sweat Like This Fitness.[5]

In 2016, MC Charlene had her first gig as a Master of Ceremony and in 2022, she signed with Cole Management company, a management firm, renowned for their work with artists like Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Teni, Joeboy, Rema, Bnxn, Fireboy, Tiwa Savage, Mohbad, Naira Marley, Zlatan and Wande Coal. The partnership is for Cole Management Company to provide management, booking and expertise for MC Charlene.[6]

MC Charlene hosts the Afro Energy Back to School Party, in Norway, on her Afro Energy World Entertainment imprint.[7] She has also hosted concerts across Europe and Africa for notable afrobeats artists, including Diamond Platnumz, Olamide, Flavour, Mr P, Fally Ipupa, Kiss Daniel, Stonebwoy, Iyanya, and Tekno.[8]

Awards and recognition[edit]

In 2019, MC Charlene was unveiled as the MC of The Year at the Scandinavian Afrobeat Music Award (SAMA).[9] In 2020, she emerged as the Best MC at the Muzikol Music Awards (MUMA) in Norway,[10] and in 2021, she was listed in Guardian Nigeria's Top 5 African female MCs.[11]
