Natalie Labbée (née Peterson; born April 1, 1975) is a Canadian politician who has been a city councillor for Greater Sudbury since 2022.

Political Career[edit]

Municipal (2010 - Present)[edit]

Town Councillor for Manitouwadge (2010 - 2014)[edit]

Natalie was first elected to Municipal Town Council of Manitouwadge, Ontario, in November 2010. She did not seek re election as she relocated to Greater Sudbury.

City Councillor at the City of Greater Sudbury (2022 - Present)[edit]

Natalie Labbee filed her paperwork and announced her run on May 4, 2022. She was endorsed by former Greater Sudbury Mayor and MPP Jim Gordon, former Councillor Ted Callaghan, and Elie Martel.[1]

She won with 54.50% of the vote, defeating 3 opponents which included 2022 Progressive Conservative candidate for Nickel Belt, Randy Hazlett, who had failed to beat incumbent MPP France Gélinas in the June 2022 provincial election.Becoming the first female councillor of Ward 7.[2]

Provincial (2023 - Present)[edit]

In 2023, Natalie endorsed Bonnie Crombie, along with former Greater Sudbury officials such as former Mayor Marianne Matichuk and Cabinet Minister Rick Bartolucci, in her bid to become the next leader of the Ontario Liberal Party.[3][4][5]

Harassment of the Councillor (2024)[edit]

On May 22, 2024, reports came out that a senior had been charged with criminally harassing a Greater Sudbury city councillor. She confirmed it was her on May 24, 2024.

"The harassment of the councillor began in 2022," police said, "and has continued throughout 2023 and 2024, escalating from harassing communication to attending and harassing the councillor at her residence, causing the councillor to fear for her safety." Detectives arrested the senior on Monday, May 20th. He was released on an undertaking, with a court date of June 19, 2024, set for him to answer to the charge of criminal harassment.[6]

Local Nickel Belt MP Marc Serre had a similar experience in the 2021 federal election when a woman came into his campaign office and verbally and physically assaulted the staff and MP.[7]
