Orkan Telhan

Orkan Telhan (born 1976 in Oberhausen, West Germany) is the Chief Information and Data Officer at Ecovative and the board president of Biodesign Challenge. Telhan was Associate Professor of Fine Arts, Emerging Design Practices in the School of Design at The University of Pennsylvania.

Telhan holds a PhD in Design and Computation[1] from MIT's Department of Architecture. He was part of the Sociable Media Group[2] at the MIT Media Laboratory and a researcher at the MIT Design Laboratory.[3] He studied Media Arts[4] at the University at Buffalo and theories of media and representation, visual studies and Graphic Design[5] at Bilkent University.

His individual and collaborative work has been exhibited internationally in venues including the Istanbul Biennial (2013,[6] 2023[7]), Istanbul Design Biennial (2012[8] 2016[9]), Milano Design Week,[10] Vienna Design Week, the Armory Show 2015 Special Projects,[11] Ars Electronica,[12] ISEA, LABoral, ArchiLab, Architectural Association, The Architectural League of New York, MIT Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit,[13] the New Museum of Contemporary Art[14] New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art,[15] the Walker Art Center,[16] and the Design Museum,[17] London.

In 2016, Telhan's design monograph "Designature: The Nature of Signatures in Art and Design[18]" was published from Revolver Publishing, Berlin.

Telhan was a co-founder of Biorealize Inc.,[19] a biotech company specialized in making next generation tools to make it easier to design with biology.
