Gbubemi Wisdom Ogholaja,[1] (born 5 November 2000), widely known as Carterson, is a Nigerian alternative hip hop rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is known for the release of his 2019 project titled "Like Rihanna," which debuted on 7 August 2019. It earned him a spot on the Soundcity TV and MTV Base new releases Afrobeats charts.[2]

Early life[edit]

Born on 5 November 2000 in Delta State, Nigeria,[1] where he spent most of his childhood. Having embarked on his musical journey at the age of 8, Carterson's early exposure to the dynamic Afrobeat and Hip-hop scene of his city deeply influenced his upbringing. Immersed in the rich musical culture, In a candid interview with The Radr Africa, he said ''Around the age of 8, I began writing songs with my neighbour's kids, and then I joined the children’s choir at my church''.[3]

Career[edit]

On 11 December 2015, Carterson achieved a notable milestone in his musical career with the release of his debut mixtape titled "I Am Legend (Tha Mixtape)." This release garnered attention within the music industry and among audiences, signifying a pivotal moment in his artistic journey.[4][5] On 18 August 2018, he released ''Sun Seyin'' collaborating with Nigerian Singer and Songwriter Lookass.[6] On 8 July 2019, Carterson's release of "Itsekiri" served as a sincere tribute to his ancestral home of Itsekiri in Nigeria, illustrating his profound connection and pride in his cultural heritage.[7][8] Carterson released "Ubo Meji" alongside "Itsekiri," both projects unveiled and distributed on the same day.[9] On 7 August 2019[10] Carterson gained wider prominence with the release of "Like Rihanna," a project that marked his debut appearance on the Mtvbase and Soundcity TV Afrobeats Charts for new releases.[7][11] On 21 August 2020 he released a project titled ''Yur Luv''.[2][7][12] On the 11th of September 2020 the official music video for ''Yur Luv'' was released, directed by TG Omori.[13] On 31 March 2023 he released his first studio album titled ''Diamonds In Groove'' which is a 8-tracked solo album.[14][15][16][17]
