Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story, is a groundbreaking and the first ever feature-length film centered around the Igbo Apprenticeship System. Created and produced by Olawumi Fajemirokun and Kene Egbue, the movie debuted at Filmhouse cinemas nationwide on December 1, 2023, garnering significant acclaim and commercial success by earning nearly 60 million naira within its first month and receiving widespread praise from audiences on various social media platforms.

Synopsis[edit]
Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story tells the story of the Igbo apprenticeship system in Nigeria. The film revolves around Áfàméfùnà (played by Stan Nze) who was brought in for questioning following the death of his friend Paulo (played by Alexx Ekubo). The death of his friend then flashed back to the complex history of both friends, where they were both navigating the world of Igbo apprenticeship in Nigeria under Odogwu (played by Kanayo O. Kanayo). Things were going smooth between both friends until Odogwu decides to settle Áfàméfùnà (junior apprentice) before Paulo (senior apprentice).[3]

Production and release[edit]
Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story was released to the Nigerian cinemas on 1 December 2023. Before its release to the cinemas, it was shown at the 2023 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and the audience expressed excitement at the movie.[5] The film was released to Netflix on 29 March 2024.[2]
