Józef Maroszek (born October 18 1950 in Białymstoku) – polish historian[1].

Memoir[edit]

He is the nephew of Józef Maroszek-constructor of wheapons and long-time lecturer in University of Technology in Warsaw[2].

In 1974, he finished historical studies in Uniwersity of Warsaw, in 1981 he became a doctor there. In 2000 habilitated in Nicolaus Copernicus Universsuty in Toruń. Since 2002 he is a professor in Uniwersity of Białystok, where he works in Institute of History and Politics[3]. He is the creator of Białystok History School[4].

In 2015, he was awarded for saving the Polish cultural heritage[5].

Professor Józef Maroszek in many years was the lecturer of History Institute of University of Białystok (he led the plant of Regional History) and the chairman of Scientific society in Białystok.

In his scientific work he undertook research, among others:

  • modern history of Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Podlasie, especially the borderland in rivers: Biebrza and Brzozówka,
  • protection of cultural heritage of Lithuania and Poland,
  • the lots of Polish in northeastern borderlands in XX c..

Publications of Józef Maroszko, especially these from the field of regional history (from Drohiczy, Białowieża across the Jałówka, Supraśl, Święta Woda, Korycin, Knyszyn, Trzcianne, Goniądz to Bobra Wielka, Pawłowicze, Łosośna Mała, Tołoczki Wielkie an even farthern in east – on the Mickiewicz trail– and on Raków, Rudawa and Iwieniec) – they're sacred to subject of history of surrounding lands[6].

His scientific interests evolved from economic and social history to reseraches of history of colonization and economic and cultural transformations in Podlasie. Lots of his works of Józef Maroszko concentrate in issues of history of former borderland of Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania since early medieval to XX c..[7]
